ICAN Medicare Pvt Ltd, the Pune-based managed care company is taking its products and services to the overseas market, especially in the third world countries. From April 1, 2002, the company will unveil its products like OPD services, accident cover, hospitalisation cover, medical finance, baby care, home care, critical care services and emergency services in Kenya.
According to George Mathew M, managing director, ICAN has plans to make its products available in all the third world countries by 2005 with an investment of $ 1.5 million per country as startup for operations.
ICAN was also in talks with the ministry of economic affairs of New Zealand to introduce its services in that country soon, he added.
One of the main reasons for targeting the third world countries is that being former colonies of the British, their healthcare systems are somewhat similar to India, Mathew says adding that the phenomenon would help his company to promote its managed care products in a better way.
ICAN is the first managed care company in India to foray into the health insurance market of third world countries. In India, ICAN is networked with more than 3000 hospitals and has six regional offices and 32 service centres.
